Beacon of hope -- the shining city on a hill

Deferred. Totally baffled. Totally lost. Totally exhausted. Totally conflicted. Totally not knowing the answers to a lot of questions even after the conversations I had with a lot of young kids -- who are the same age as my own children. (One thing stood out: there are lawyers out there who take advantage of people’s desperation)

Last night at the first PATH for DREAMs event, after talking to these kids and their parents, who only want to have a shot at the American Dream, reminded me of what my family went through.

It’s not just immigration rights. Sadly, we have laws that need to be followed, but at the same time, we have policies that are not enforceable. Something’s definitely broken when there are 12 million people who are lost in the system.

I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again. Both parties – Democrats and Republicans need to talk to families affected by the challenging immigration policies. Learn from what we went through. Find a balance.  Stop thinking of this issue as a political plat form to gain more votes but to come together as a country who believes that we are the beacon of hope – the shining city on a hill. We should be flattered that people want to uproot their lives and be part of what makes this country great.

If  (Pres.) Ronald Reagan was able to pass an Immigration Reform bill, why couldn’t any other politicians do the same? We need legislation. A permanent solution. Not just a postponement. Let’s not get hang-up on terminology.

Let’s find a balance between being compassionate and enforcing the law.

Talk to me. (Let me cry out loud first…)
